Welcome from your Community Services Officer
Hello, my name is Melyssa Griffin. As the Panhellenic Community Service Officer, I plan events within our Greek community related to volunteering and service. This past spring, each sorority participated in Relay for Life, a 24-hour event that raises money and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Of all of the teams (including non-greek teams), Panhellenic sorority women raised half of the total money for the event, totaling more than ten thousand dollars!
In the fall, I am planning to work with the Interfraternity Council (IFC) to make October our "Community Service Month." Panhellenic plans to hold a week where each sorority will donate toys, clothes, and food to be delivered to Mercy House, which is a homeless shelter in Santa Ana. Mercy House also offers support for abused women and children, individuals battling AIDS, and people with substance issues. This week will culminate with a service project at Mercy House where girls will help the people living there.
Overall, Panhellenic women participate in vast amounts of community service and understand the importance of reaching out to the community to support, help, and appreciate.
